All images in this section were kindly provided by the PC-Tumor BBS 407-234-1287 (John Minarcik, PC-Tumor BBS Sysop). The following is a note provided by John:
PC-Tumor has been on-line since 1992, which is the about the same time that a very close family member has been living with metastatic lung carcinoma, relatively symptom-FREE, which is whom our hard work and fun for the last three years has been dedicated to.
Dr Peter Shireman, Dr. Mariano Alvira, and I started this BBS as a forum for which regular pathologists from all over cyberspace could upload and download freely, free-of-charge, any case which they felt was interesting but didn't want to go through the hassle and harassment of paper publication. And that is exactly what we stand for today as well. Although the three of us have contributed about 90% of the cases, you can see that we have had over 600 members call from all over the US, Canada, and four other civilized continents. Many local people have called too. It is hard to say how many callers are MD's or pathologists, because we do not care who calls and do NOT ask for a extensive identification of user data, only name, address, and phone number.
PC-Tumor is for anybody who wants to upload or download an interesting pathology image of any type, for any reason, and although most are microscope tumor images, many of the enclosed 827 image files are gross, cytology, radiologic, collage images, and beautiful or entertaining files.
All the images on PC-Tumor are platform independent, and have all been well edited and guaranteed as good viewable images, although not all may be viewable on any particular system.
We have also given workshops at the ASCP national meetings in 1993, 1994, 1995, and have been asked to return in 1996 as well.
We have given permission for ANYBODY to use these images FREE, for any purpose, hopefully educational.
We hope to help pave the way for a highway in which all pathologists can share images-FREE, and although it feels nice to have built up a neat database over the years, I think the amount of traffic on the highway is more important than the size of the road.
Sincerely,
John R. Minarcik, MD
